Contract for new ferries for Polish shipowners

A contract for delivery of new Ro-Pax ferries to be built for the Polish Ferries company (Polskie Promy), whose shareholders are the State Treasury and Polsteam, was signed in Gdansk on November 26, 2021.

As part of the contract, Remontowa Shiprepair Yard in Gdansk will build three ferries, two of which will sail under the colours of Unity Line, a subsidiary of Polish Steamship Company (Polsteam). One ferry, on the other hand, will be operated by Polferries. A letter of intent is part of the agreement, including an option to build a fourth ferry.

They will be modern, low-emission vessels powered by four Dual-Fuel LNG engines with battery-assisted hybrid systems. Instead of conventional propellers, each vessel will be equipped with two azimuth thrusters at the stern and two bow thrusters, which will greatly improve manoeuvring in ports.

Each ferry will have LOA of 195.6m and a breadth of 31.6m, featuring 4100 lane metres and max. speed of 19 knots. The ferry will be able to carry 400 passengers, with a crew of 50.

Executives from Polsteam, Polish Ferries, Remontowa Shiprepair Yard and Remontowa Holding were present at the signing of the contract.
